Two close friends who live in the canton of Vaud. We started because we couldn't find the snack we wanted: a snack made in Switzerland, with natural ingredients and no preservatives. A bar to slip into your bag before a workout, a hike or a long day on the slopes, with ingredients you recognise. So we decided to make it ourselves. Today our bars are made in small batches, and you'll find them in gyms, CrossFit boxes and sports shops.
A square 50 g bar made for days on the move: the gym, the bouldering wall, the trail, the slopes. At the heart of every bar: dates, which give it its sweetness, and egg white for protein, up to 13 g per bar. It's high in fibre, grain-free and has no refined sugar: the sugar comes from the dates. Bars made in Switzerland, in our workshop in Thierrens, in the canton of Vaud, with an ingredient list that fits on one line.
Three for now (and more are on the way!), each with its own character:
Here's the full list of ingredients we use, across all our bars: date paste, egg white powder, chicory fibre (inulin), cocoa powder, cocoa butter, cocoa nibs, peanut butter, desiccated coconut and coconut oil. Each bar has its own identity and uses only some of them: the exact list for each flavour is on its product page and on the pack.
Many protein bars rely on blends of milk proteins (whey, casein) or soy, often as isolates. We made a different choice: egg white. An ingredient everyone knows, but one you still rarely find in bars, and one of the most complete proteins in terms of amino acids. It lets us make a bar with no whey, no milk powder and no plant-protein blends, with a short, readable ingredient list. Egg white provides most of the protein in every bar; in the Peanut Butter bar, the peanut butter adds a good share too, for a total of 13 g per bar.
Most of our ingredients contribute some: dates, chicory fibre (inulin, a plant fibre extracted from chicory root), cocoa, peanut butter and coconut. The result: bars that are high in fibre.
These days everyone looks at protein. Fibre, much less. For us, it matters just as much: the Swiss Society for Nutrition recommends at least 30 g of fibre a day, and nearly 9 in 10 adults in Switzerland don't get there. That's why we wanted a bar that doesn't rely on protein alone, but is also high in fibre.
Yes, from the dates, our first ingredient: no refined sugar.
No, they contain egg white.
No, our bars are not certified organic. Even so, some of the ingredients we use are organic.
We favour Swiss companies: three of our five suppliers are Swiss.
Psst… do you produce one of our raw materials in Switzerland? Write to us!
Our bars are naturally gluten-free: we don't use any ingredient containing gluten, and no cereals come into our workshop. We don't state it on the pack yet: for that, we need certification from each of our suppliers that there is no cross-contamination on their side. If you have coeliac disease: we don't use gluten, but we can't yet guarantee the absence of traces at our suppliers.
No need for a fridge: keep them dry and away from heat. The best-before date is printed on every pack.
